Commentary.......Message from the Publishers: 2001 Track & Field Rankings Nationally

1/13/2002

Just as the 2002 Arkansas indoor season is rapidly approaching, a look back at how well Arkansas high school athletes performed versus national competition might be interesting.  The rankings below are based on the 2001 DyeStat Elite Final Outdoor Rankings and the 2001 High Schools Lists published in the January 2002 issue of Track & Field News.  DyeStats Elite ranks approximately the Top 100 performers nationwide. DyeStats rankings are for outdoor performances only while Track & Field News includes indoor performances. Performances are listed in the table below based on highest rankings.

Being ranked nationally in these rankings is a significant achievement. We congratulate the athletes and their coaches for these achievements and hope that 2002 will see an even longer list. As a note….Arkansas has about 1% of the US population so statistics would imply that only about one athlete per event should be ranked.  This past year saw Arkansas athletes or teams be ranked in 19 of the 30 events (15 in each Boys and Girls).  Each Girls and Boys achieved one Top 10 ranking while the Boys claimed six Top 30 and the Girls four.

DyeStat is the Internet home of US high school cross-country and track and field and THE place online for national info on the sport. Check out DyeStat’s criteria for being ranked and how to submit performances. Go to our Links/National page and go to DyeStat for all the latest data and Track & Field News for coverage of the sport at all levels.
