2006 State Indoor Meet Recaps

Class 1/2/3A Combined Meet ( 2/24/2006)

 

GIRLS: Lafayette County raced and jumped to victory in the Class 1/2/3A Girls meet led by Traci Gillard’s 36 points.  Gillard took wins in the 55m dash and TJ, 2nd in the 200m, 3rd in the LJ and carried the stick on the winning 4x400m relay team.  Stacy Yahn of Mena took home two blue ribbons with wins in the HJ and PV as did Jessica Jones of Warren in the 200m/400m double. Jones also placed 3rd in the 6th in the 55m. Emily Carpenter of Carlisle and Melissa Pollreis of Gravette dueled in the distance races as they traded 1-2 finishes as Carpenter took the shorter race and Pollreis mastered the 8-lapper.

BOYS: Robbie Buckner scored 28.5 points to lead Ashdown to the Class 1/2/3A Boys crown while edging out Cameron Baker of Osceola scored 26 of his team’s 31 points.  Buckner won the 400m and LJ, took 3rd in the 200m and anchored the winning 4x400m relay.  Baker won the 200m, placed 2nd in the 55m, 3rd in the LJ and 7th in the TJ.  Nathan Hall of Jessieville was the meet’s only double winner with wins in the 1600m and 3200m and shared a 6th place ribbon for a leg on the 4x800m relay.

Class 4/5A Combined Meet (2/25/2006)

 

GIRLS: With no victories in any event, Russellville’s Lady Cyclones pieced together 62 points in nine vents to edge Bryant and Rogers.  Meanwhile, Karen Thomas of Camden Fairview scored 44 with wins in the 55m, 200m and LJ, 2nd in the TJ and 3rd in the 400m. Thomas’ 200m time of 25.54 met the DyeState Elite standard.  Whitney Jones of Searcy put up 34 points led by a win in the TJ and 2nd in the LJ, 55m and 200m.  Other DyeStat Elite marks were Daleisha Taylor  of FS Northside in the 400m and Stephanie Irwin of Lake Hamilton in the PV.  Kimberly Peek of Springdale Har-Ber won the 1600m in a strong early season mark of 5:22 and became Har-Ber’s first state track champion.

BOYS:  The Mustangs of Forrest City galloped to victory in the Boys meet by 67-61 over Fayetteville led by wins in the 200m by Eric Walker’s 22.77 clocking and in the shot put by Richard Flenoy’s nearly 52’ fling.  Kyle Houston added another 15.25 with two 4ths and a 5th in the 800-1600-3200 trio and a lead off leg on the 5th place 4x800m relay team while Walker added another 8 in the 55m.  Jeff Henderson of Sylvan Hills and Donavan Loring of Little Rock Parkview each scored 28 points.  Henderson gathered his points with wins in the 55m  and LJ and 2nd in the TJ, all DyeStat Elite marks. Loring, who has the state’s all-time best mark in the TJ, posted an excellent early season mark  at 45” 6.25” in his win; he also, won the 55m hurdles and took 2nd in the LJ, both DyeState Elite marks.  James Neal of Batesville clocked a nice 50.37 in he 400m while Sam James of Bentonville cruised to a win in the 800m at a swift 1:56.27.  The US leading vaulter, Spencer McCorkle of Bryant took the win at an impressive 16’ 8” although well below his previous best earlier this year at 17” 3”.
